Ousmane Dembele's Playing Time Sparks Debate Ahead of PSG vs Manchester City

Debate Over Ousmane Dembele's Limited Minutes at Paris Saint-Germain

French media have been buzzing about Ousmane Dembele's reduced time on the pitch as Paris Saint-Germain prepare to face Manchester City in the Champions League. The Ballon d'Or winner has often been rested by manager Luis Enrique, stirring disagreement among experts on whether this cautious approach helps or harms Dembele.

PSG’s Careful Management of Dembele

This season, PSG have taken a very reserved route with Dembele's involvement. He sat out completely during their recent 3-1 win over Le Mans and was also absent in an earlier match against Lille. Officially, the club says he is being rested ahead of the big clash with Man City. Yet, Dembele's performances while captaining France against Italy and Belgium were underwhelming, prompting doubts about his current form and fitness under Enrique.

Dugarry Warns of Conflict

"PSG must have data that we do not have, but I think at some point it is going to end in a clash," said pundit Christophe Dugarry. "His games for Paris are average, same with the French national team, and after some time it will mess with his mind. Are they scared he'll get injured, or trying to have him fit for February? But how long do you plan to keep him resting until then? This approach is more than surprising."

Dugarry also questioned the impact on Dembele’s image as Ballon d'Or holder. "If he doesn’t find a good level, what do you tell the guy who won the Ballon d’Or, extended his contract with a huge salary, and is expected to perform for Les Bleus? What message does it send when he plays only one match out of three? He deserved the award, but what’s the point of playing him so little?"

Di Meco Supports Luis Enrique's Strategy

On the other hand, former player and analyst Eric Di Meco defended Enrique’s choices. "If any coach got 100 or even 120 percent out of Dembele by managing his minutes, it's Luis Enrique," Di Meco said. "Criticizing the one who helped you become double European champions doesn't make sense."

Now, all eyes turn to Dembele as PSG travel to Manchester City, where he aims to prove the skeptics wrong in a crucial Champions League fixture.
