Alex de Minaur Shares Injury Update After Advancing to Shanghai Masters Quarterfinals
Alex de Minaur Reaches 10th ATP Masters 1000 Quarterfinal in Shanghai
Alex de Minaur secured his spot in the quarterfinals of the Shanghai Masters by defeating Karen Khachanov 6-3, 6-4 in the round of 16. This marks his 10th appearance in the quarterfinals at an ATP Masters 1000 event. With the ATP Finals in Turin looming next month, De Minaur is aiming to solidify his position.
Injury Status After China Open Retirement
After retiring hurt during the China Open final against Novak Djokovic, where he was down 6-7(3-7), 1-0, De Minaur arrived in Shanghai carrying a groin injury. Speaking to reporters, he gave an update on his condition, saying his movement has improved day by day.
"Yeah, it's been feeling better and better every single day. It's been seven to eight days since that match, and there's been a lot of focus on recovery. I've done everything I can to get better each day. Today was by far the best day," he shared.
He added that combining his improved physical state with smart tactics and solid serving helped him perform well against Khachanov. The match felt clean and satisfying to him.
Key Moments from the Victory
When asked about specific shots, like his down-the-line backhand winners, De Minaur highlighted their importance in breaking Khachanov’s rhythm.
"In the first set, I hit a big one to break. There were a couple more throughout where I trusted myself. If I let him dictate, he's very dangerous. I had to be the one to make him move first and then play out the point," he explained.
Upcoming Challenge: Potential Match Against Zverev or Bublik
The Australian faces a tough road ahead with a quarterfinal against either top seed Alexander Zverev or 19th seed Alexander Bublik. He commented on both opponents:
"Zverev is the world number one, having played incredibly all year with immense confidence. He's definitely the most in-form player right now. Bublik can beat anyone on any day. I'm excited to watch their match and see what happens."
De Minaur's head-to-head records stand at 4-8 versus Zverev and 4-2 against Bublik. Earlier in the tournament, he defeated qualifier Rei Sakamoto.
