Mukesh Kumar Joins Nottinghamshire for Title Challenge

Nottinghamshire have turned to India seam bowler Mukesh Kumar as they look to hold on to their County Championship crown in the final stretch of the season.

The 32-year-old, capped three times in Tests by India and last seen in the longest format against England in 2024, arrives at Trent Bridge with Notts right in the thick of the title race. They sit second in Division One, only four points behind leaders Somerset, with just two matches left. The margins are tight. So are the nerves.

Kumar brings serious first-class pedigree. All 233 of his wickets so far have come in Indian domestic cricket, a career built on hard spells and heavy workloads rather than fanfare. He does not come in cold. Only days ago, Kumar took 3-62 to help East Zone beat South Zone in the Duleep Trophy final, ending a 14-year wait for that title. It was the kind of performance that underlines why a county chasing silverware would move quickly.

Nottinghamshire head coach Peter Moores has called Kumar a “quality” addition at “a crucial time of the season” – a clear signal that this is no depth signing, but a bowler expected to shape the run-in.
