Lhuan-dre Pretorius Shatters T20 Century Record for South Africa

Lhuan-dre Pretorius blasted his way into the record books on Friday, becoming the youngest South African to score a T20 International century as the Proteas edged Namibia by 11 runs in a Tri-Series run-fest in Windhoek.

Just days after carving 94 against Zimbabwe, the 20-year-old opener went one better, hammering 101 from 53 balls. He cleared the ropes eight times, threaded five fours, and turned a promising tour into a statement of intent.

If Pretorius supplied the history, Connor Esterhuizen provided the chaos.

Walking out with him at the top, Esterhuizen tore into Namibia with 88 off only 40 deliveries, an innings that never really paused for breath. The pair shredded the home attack, piling on a 156-run stand in just 11.5 overs and ripping the game open before it had settled.

By the time both were done, South Africa had surged to 228 for four, a total that looked imposing even on a small ground and a flat pitch.

Namibia refused to fold. They counterpunched hard, turning the chase into a genuine contest and keeping the scoreboard racing. Wickets were scarce, boundaries were not, and the home side stayed in touch deep into the innings.

But the early damage told. The visitors held their nerve, tightened the screws just enough, and kept Namibia to 217 for three in a match that never stopped swinging between bat and ball.

On a night of big hits and bigger numbers, it was Pretorius’ hundred that cut through the noise – a landmark innings that may prove to be the first chapter of a long-term solution at the top of South Africa’s T20 order.
