Marc Guehi Candid About Manchester City's Lack of Aggression in Champions League Loss to PSG

Manchester City Struggles Against PSG

Marc Guehi, the defender for Manchester City, openly criticized his team's lack of aggression after their 4-2 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League. Despite Erling Haaland setting records, City’s poor start at the Etihad Stadium proved costly.

First Half Challenges

PSG dominated early, with goals from Desire Doue, Ousmane Dembele, and Vitinha giving them a strong advantage before halftime. The visitors exploited a hesitant City defense that struggled against fast breaks and quick plays.

"We need to do a lot better in the first half, myself included, especially for the first two goals," Guehi said in an interview with City Studios. "They were more aggressive and won many one-on-one duels, which gave them the platform to score."

Improved Second Half Performance

The second half saw a surge in intensity from City, with both teams combining for 42 shots on goal during the match. Guehi pointed out the change in mentality after the break.

"In the second half, we were much more aggressive. We won more duels and created the chances to score," he remarked. City controlled possession and made 21 attempts after halftime but couldn’t overturn the deficit.

Despite the loss, Guehi found positives in the team’s resilience and fan support.

"Not the best first half but plenty to take from the second half. It shows a lot about the players and the club. The fans stayed with us the whole game, which was amazing," he added.

Focus on Learning and Future Matches

With the Champions League still in its early stages, Guehi urged his team to see this defeat as motivation rather than discouragement.

"Everyone knew if we kept fighting, there was something to gain. This is just the beginning of the competition," said the former Crystal Palace player. "We need to learn from this and improve in future games."
