LeBron James Managing Chronic Arthritis in Left Foot as He Joins 76ers for 24th NBA Season

LeBron James Faces Chronic Arthritis Ahead of 24th NBA Season with 76ers

At 41 years old, LeBron James is preparing for his 24th NBA season, this time with the Philadelphia 76ers. Alongside his many career achievements, he is reportedly coping with chronic arthritis in his left foot, according to ESPN's Dave McMenamin.

James starts his days early at the 76ers' training facility, arriving at 7:45 a.m. after a helicopter ride from New York. His longtime trainer, Mike Mancias, guides him through stretching and activation exercises designed to warm up his body. Special focus is given to his left foot to manage arthritis symptoms, followed by work on his lower back.

Last season, James missed about a month due to sciatica while playing for the Los Angeles Lakers. His daily routine with Mancias also targets lingering effects from that injury. Despite occasional setbacks, James has played in at least 55 games every regular season not impacted by COVID-19.

New Team Dynamics at 76ers Training Camp

This marks James' first year with Philadelphia after signing as a free agent in the summer. Although he did not stage a publicized decision event like before, he reportedly considered offers from five different teams before choosing the 76ers.

During the opening week of training camp, McMenamin reveals that Joel Embiid, Jaylen Brown, Tyrese Maxey, and James worked together extensively on two-man plays. They focused on anticipating defensive traps, whether in the post or on the wing, practicing passing out of pressure to find open teammates.

The only starter not yet fully integrated into these sessions was 21-year-old VJ Edgecombe. He shared that before James arrived, he created a group chat including himself, Maxey, Brown, Embiid, and others. After LeBron joined, Edgecombe asked Maxey to add him since he didn’t have James’ number.

Preseason and Season Outlook

The 76ers open preseason play against the Knicks but will be missing key players including James, Maxey, Embiid, and Anfernee Simons for that game. The regular season tips off on Tuesday, October 20, with Philadelphia facing the Knicks again at Madison Square Garden. Fans eagerly await James' official debut in a 76ers uniform.
