Coco Gauff Labels Novak Djokovic ‘An Alien’ After China Open Semifinal Win Over Daniil Medvedev
Novak Djokovic Advances to China Open Final Amid Controversy
At the ATP 500 China Open in Beijing, Novak Djokovic has once again demonstrated his remarkable skill by securing a spot in the final. His semifinal match against Daniil Medvedev ended abruptly after Medvedev was defaulted for striking a spectator with a ball, with Djokovic leading 7-5, 5-3 when the match concluded.
Djokovic Set to Face Alex de Minaur in Final
The 39-year-old veteran, aiming for his seventh China Open title, now prepares to face Alex de Minaur in the championship match. Djokovic remains unbeaten at this tournament and has won the event six times previously, with victories in 2009, 2010, 2012, 2013, 2014, and 2015.
Coco Gauff Calls Djokovic ‘An Alien’ After Watching His Match
Coco Gauff, who is also competing in Beijing, praised Djokovic’s performance after her own advancement to the round of 16. Speaking to reporters, she said:
"I mean, it’s an alien honestly. I was watching the match. Even from Daniil, it was like there were no unforced errors to win these points. The level stayed the same for over two hours and 30 minutes for two sets, which is insane. It was an unfortunate ending, but I’m glad it finished in two sets; otherwise, it would have gone on much longer. Novak is an alien. I don’t know how he does it honestly at this age. So good, I don’t know."
Mirra Andreeva Also Inspired by Djokovic’s Drive
Mirra Andreeva, another star at the WTA 1000 event in Beijing, expressed admiration for Djokovic after reaching the quarterfinals. She shared:
"I think what he’s doing is unbelievable. He’s won everything possible. Yet, he still finds motivation to play tournaments, fight, win, and beat many great players. It’s a big inspiration for many players to see that even a legend who has won it all still enjoys playing and fighting. He’s fighting for something—I don’t know what his motivation is. Maybe he just loves playing tennis and winning. For sure, he’s a huge inspiration personally for me."
