Pakistan Secures Asian Games Bronze as Fatima Sana Shines Against Bangladesh

Pakistan’s women closed out the Asian Games in Nisshin with something they badly wanted: a medal, and a measure of revenge.

Two years after losing the bronze-medal match to Bangladesh in Hangzhou, they turned the script on its head with a 31‑run win, powered by a fearless captain’s knock from Fatima Sana and a ruthless new-ball burst that Bangladesh never truly recovered from.

Captain’s rescue act

At 67 for five, Pakistan were in trouble. The innings had stuttered, the top and middle order already back in the pavilion, and Bangladesh had a firm grip on the contest.

Fatima tore that script up.

Walking in with the game tilting away, she counter-attacked with intent, smashing 45 off just 30 balls. Three fours, three sixes, and a complete shift in mood. The ball started disappearing, the field spread, and suddenly it was Bangladesh searching for answers.

Early strikes, pressure mounting

With runs on the board and a medal on the line, Pakistan’s new-ball bowlers came out hunting.

Umm-e-Hani and Tasmia Rubab tore into Bangladesh’s top order, reducing them to 20 for three inside the first five overs. The chase, already tricky, suddenly looked steep.

But the pressure never truly lifted.

The required rate kept climbing, the fielders closed in, and Pakistan’s bowlers refused to offer the release Bangladesh desperately needed. When Fatima Sana removed Ritu Moni, she not only broke another partnership but also moved her own tally to 31 Twenty20 international wickets in 2026 — a personal landmark on a day already defined by her all-round influence.

Bangladesh closed on 114 for seven. They had batted out the overs. They had not come close to the target.

This bronze sits alongside Pakistan’s golden memories from the Asian Games — the titles in 2010 and 2014 that first announced their arrival on the continental stage. It also helps erase the sting of that 2022 bronze-medal defeat to Bangladesh.

The road to the podium this time was not smooth. Pakistan edged past Thailand by three wickets in the quarterfinals, then ran into a ruthless Sri Lanka side in the semifinals and lost by eight wickets. The final itself belonged to India, who hammered Sri Lanka by 147 runs after piling up 216 for three and skittling them for 69.

In that company, Pakistan’s response in the bronze-medal match mattered. Under pressure, after a semifinal setback, they found their captain in full command, their bowlers sharp, and their temperament intact.
