England Retain Sonny Baker for Edgbaston Test Against Pakistan

England have backed Sonny Baker for the series finale against Pakistan, keeping the young seamer in their squad for the third and final Test at Edgbaston while Brydon Carse remains out of contention.

Carse, 31, has not featured since an incident outside a Derby nightclub on August 22, which led to him being briefly handcuffed by police. He was dropped for the second Test at Lord’s and remains under investigation, so stays on the sidelines as England close out the summer.

Baker’s retention is the headline call. The seamer holds his place as England resist the temptation to reshuffle for a dead rubber, even with the series already secured.

The only other change is a quiet but telling one: Matthew Fisher has been left out. The seamer drops from the squad as England trim their options and double down on the group that has delivered a 2-0 lead.

England now head to Birmingham with the chance to finish the job properly. The series is won; the statement still to come. A clean sweep over Pakistan at Edgbaston, starting September 9, would do it.
