Zinedine Zidane Plans Tactical Tweaks Ahead of France vs Belgium Nations League Clash
Zinedine Zidane to Adjust Line-Up for Key Nations League Game Against Belgium
Zinedine Zidane, the France manager, announced he will make strategic changes to his starting line-up for the upcoming Nations League match against Belgium. These adjustments come as Les Bleus aim to stay atop Group A1 following a demanding international break.
France Eyes Top Spot in Group A1
After a tough 1-1 draw with Italy at the Stade de France, which followed wins over Turkey and Belgium, France is focused on securing the lead in their Nations League group. Belgium, currently second with six points, bounced back from a 1-0 loss to France in Brussels by beating Turkey 3-0, making this match crucial for both sides.
Zidane Faces Key Absences but Confident in Squad Depth
Injuries and suspensions force Zidane to rethink his plans. Captain Kylian Mbappe is sidelined with a knee injury sustained during the win in Turkey. Defender Dayot Upamecano is suspended after a late red card in the Italy game. Despite these setbacks, Zidane trusts his squad's quality and intends to rotate players to balance freshness with a competitive edge.
"There will be changes, that’s for sure. It is our fourth match, and we can’t just do anything," Zidane told L’Equipe. "We will make smart changes, and above all, we will do it to be competitive."
Rotation to Foster Competition and Unity
For Zidane, rotating the squad is more than resting players; it’s about building team spirit and motivation. He wants every player to feel involved and driven to contribute to the national team’s success.
"It is to show that we are all involved and that all the players are committed to this team, to demonstrate that there is a lot of competition within the French national team," Zidane explained."The demands are the same, but the work with the national team is different from club football. I enjoyed daily training at clubs, and now my role has changed, but my desire to work harmoniously with the team remains."
He reflected on spending two weeks with the squad and the frustration of that period ending, saying they still have "one last effort to make to leave the camp happy."
Maintaining Momentum Towards Knockout Stage
Sitting first in Group A1 with seven points, a win over Belgium would boost France’s chances of advancing to the knockout rounds. This game is the final fixture of the current international window before the team reconvenes in November.
