Mourinho’s first Madrid squad takes shape

This has been Jose Mourinho’s first true imprint on the dressing room since walking back through the doors at the Santiago Bernabeu. He arrived as the headline act of the summer, and the club quickly backed him with six major signings.

The first wave brought a World Cup winner in Marc Cucurella, a powerful defensive presence in Ibrahima Konate, and the technical craft of Bernardo Silva. Denzel Dumfries added muscle and energy on the flank. Then came the marquee arrival that changed the tone of the window.

Yan Diomande, just 19, walked into Madrid’s history books. The Ivorian winger has become the most expensive signing the club has ever made, with a deal worth €140 million including add-ons. A teenager, carrying a galáctico price tag and the expectations that come with it.

Outgoing traffic still possible

Where the club remains flexible is in departures. Diaz reports that Real Madrid are not completely closing the door on exits in the final hours of the window.

Eduardo Camavinga sits at the centre of that discussion. The club have been open to moving him on and he has been heavily linked with a switch to the Premier League. For now, he has resisted every nudge towards the exit. He wants to stay. Madrid, at least so far, have not convinced him otherwise.

Raul Asencio finds himself in a similar limbo. Mourinho does not see a major role for the academy product in his project and has made him available for a move. Asencio, like Camavinga, has been reluctant to walk away from the Bernabeu badge.

So the picture is set. No more arrivals, possible exits, and a coach who must now turn a frantic summer into a functioning team. The window will close on Tuesday night, but the real judgement on this Madrid rebuild will come under the floodlights, not in the boardroom.
