Peter Handscomb Reflects on Facing India's Precise Bowling
Peter Handscomb on the Challenge of Indian Bowling
Currently leading the Australia A team in India, Peter Handscomb is facing a tough challenge against some of the most accurate bowlers in cricket. Despite a difficult start in the first unofficial Test against India A in Puducherry, Handscomb remains focused on both his current performance and what lies ahead.
Adjusting to India's Precision
Handscomb, 35, admits Test cricket once exposed weaknesses in his game. Now, after years of refining his technique and mindset, he approaches the tour with experience and determination. He stresses that success here requires more than just attacking; it involves recognizing chances to score against disciplined bowling.
"You've got to attack when you get the opportunity to score, but it is tough," Handscomb told TOI before the second Test started on Tuesday. "The Indian bowlers are incredibly accurate, consistent and don't give a lot of bad balls. You’ve got to try and find a way to score off good balls. It can be tough when the ball misbehaves, but that’s the challenge of playing in India."
Experience Against Top Competition
More than half of Handscomb's 11 Test matches have been against India. He describes this as demanding yet rewarding, given the quality of players he has faced.
"It’s tough to keep coming up against India, but it’s also such an amazing thing to do," he said. "There are some of the best players in the world here and I’m lucky enough to have played against some of them."
