Manchester United's Patrick Dorgu Withdraws from Denmark Squad Due to Injury
Denmark Faces New Setback as Patrick Dorgu Exits Squad
Manchester United defender Patrick Dorgu has pulled out of the Denmark national team because of an injury, a blow confirmed by head coach Brian Riemer. This latest withdrawal adds to a mounting list of absences that have left Denmark's squad stretched thin during the current international window.
Dorgu’s Injury Deepens Denmark’s Troubles
Dorgu was forced to leave the Denmark camp on Sunday evening after limping off in their recent 2-0 Nations League win against Wales. His departure follows a series of injuries affecting key players including Andreas Christensen, Alexander Bah, Albert Gronbaek, and Kasper Dolberg, all sidelined since the initial squad call-up.
"We’re sending him home now, he’s out and won’t be ready for next week. Further tests will determine how long he’ll be sidelined," Riemer told Bold.
Impact on Denmark's Tactical Options
Dorgu’s absence disrupts Denmark’s tactical plans, especially on the left flank where his versatility was crucial. Riemer expressed frustration over the lack of depth in certain positions and noted that the remaining players are showing signs of fatigue due to increased demands.
"I have never experienced anything like this. Before today, seven or eight players who normally make up a 23-man squad were missing. Now with Dorgu out, it’s just really annoying," Riemer said to TV2.
Possible Replacements Considered
To counter the growing injury crisis, Riemer is looking into calling up replacements, particularly for wide positions. The coach is weighing options among experienced players and promising young talents who can quickly adjust to the team's setup and handle international pressure.
"It could be Anders Dreyer, Andreas Skov Olsen who has started well in Turkey, or possibly one of the younger players," Riemer explained to Bold.
Rasmus Hojlund Reacts to the Setback
The news hit hard for striker Rasmus Hojlund, who sympathized with Dorgu and emphasized his importance to both the national team and his former club. Hojlund acknowledged that a long-term absence of Dorgu would be a significant loss.
"I think it’s a shame. He’s a huge profile for us and my old club. If he’s out for a long time, it’s obviously a bummer," Hojlund told TV2.
