Olivier Giroud Signals Possible Retirement After This Season
Olivier Giroud Considers Ending His Career Next Summer
Just before turning 40, Olivier Giroud suggested in an interview with L'Équipe that he might retire after the current season. The 2018 World Cup winner told the French sports outlet, "As a player, I think this is very likely my last season. That's why I'm enjoying every moment." Giroud is currently signed with Lille.
Two Decades of Football and Remarkable Achievements
Giroud's professional journey began at Grenoble back in 2006. If he retires next year, his career will have spanned 21 years. Over that time, he not only became France's all-time leading scorer, earning 137 caps and netting 57 goals, but also collected several trophies on the club stage.
- French Champion: Montpellier
- FA Cups Won: Four titles with Arsenal and Chelsea combined
- Europa League: Winner in 2019
- Champions League: Winner in 2021
In July 2025, Giroud returned to France by joining Lille, a move many believe could mark the closing chapter of his professional playing days.
