Mourinho Reveals Why Bernardo Silva Is Crucial to Real Madrid's Midfield Setup

Following Real Madrid's 2-1 win over Barcelona in the El Clasico, manager Jose Mourinho shared his thoughts on how new signing Bernardo Silva is fitting into the team's midfield. Silva started the match and played for 75 minutes before Eduardo Camavinga replaced him, later assisting Kylian Mbappe for the winning goal in the 88th minute.

Mourinho Highlights Squad Depth and Tactical Choices

Mourinho stressed the importance of having a strong and versatile squad where every player must be ready to make an impact. He said that although he knows Silva well, integrating him into the team’s dynamic after just over three months has been a process.

"I’ve said that he’s been here for a little over three months. Obviously, I know him very well, but knowing someone very well is one thing, and seeing how he can integrate into the team dynamic is another," Mourinho explained.

He also refused to name a fixed starting eleven, emphasizing the hard work of the entire group.

Balancing Midfield with Different Player Profiles

Mourinho prefers mixing players with different tactical qualities rather than pairing two similar midfielders. He mentioned that he avoids using Silva and Guler together unless necessary, favoring combinations that balance defense and attacking creativity.

"I’ve learned that in midfield, having a combination of talents gives us more than having two players with similar characteristics," Mourinho stated. "I prefer this combination of talents, which gives us balance when defending and more quality when launching attacks."

Competition Keeps Real Madrid Flexible

The presence of Bernardo Silva, Camavinga, Guler, and Tchouameni creates intense competition for midfield spots, allowing Real Madrid to adapt tactics depending on opponents and match situations. The squad’s flexibility keeps title rivals guessing as they prepare for upcoming fixtures, including their next La Liga challenge against Santander.
