Keyrol Figueroa Set for Loan Move as Liverpool Faces Squad Challenges

On a deadline day crackling with uncertainty at Anfield, one decision at least looks inevitable: Keyrol Figueroa is heading out.

Liverpool are wrestling with two problems at once. The glaring holes in the first-team squad have dominated the noise, but in the shadows sits a second issue – a cluster of players who simply don’t have a pathway into the senior picture and must be moved on before the window shuts. Both puzzles need solving today.

Harvey Elliott is already halfway out of the door, his switch to Valencia described as all but done. Federico Chiesa’s situation is murkier, his role once again hard to define in a squad that’s still taking shape. Those are the headline names.

Figueroa is not. Yet his situation says plenty about where Liverpool are.

The 20-year-old striker signed a new contract last season, a decision that surprised many around the club. The expectation had been straightforward: see out his deal, leave in 2026, and restart his career elsewhere. Instead, he committed again, only to find himself no closer to the first-team setup.

He is nowhere near the senior picture now, and everyone knows it. That makes an exit feel less like a possibility and more like a necessity.

So here we are. According to The Athletic, Figueroa has two offers on the table for a loan this season. Liverpool are weighing them up, aware that time is draining from the window. One of those proposals will be accepted unless a better option lands late. Either way, Figueroa will have a new club for the campaign ahead.

What happens after that is entirely down to him. This loan doesn’t look like a springboard into Liverpool’s first team so much as an audition for his wider career. If he explodes, doors open – whether at Anfield or somewhere else. If he drifts, the path is obvious.

For now, though, on a frantic final day defined by big gaps and bigger questions, Keyrol Figueroa at least knows one thing: his chance to shine is coming. The only mystery left is where he’ll be kicking off his season.
