Jannik Sinner Set for Tennis Return at Beijing Open with Novak Djokovic Also Competing

Jannik Sinner's Comeback Scheduled at ATP 500 in Beijing

Jannik Sinner is preparing to return to professional tennis at the ATP 500 tournament in Beijing, ending a break caused by a right knee injury. Reports from Italian media Sportmediaset reveal that the world No. 1 plans to travel to China later this week ahead of the China Open, aiming for a September 30 start.

The 25-year-old has been out of competition since his Wimbledon victory in July. His injury forced him to miss the entire North American hard-court season, including the US Open where he was the 2025 finalist. After more than two months off, Sinner has resumed training and is targeting a strong return on the courts where he has previously excelled.

Beijing: A Venue of Triumphs

The China Open holds special significance for Sinner. He has reached the final every time he has played there, securing titles in both 2023 and 2025. Defending his title will be a major focus as he prepares to also compete in the Shanghai Masters starting October 7.

Progress and Preparation

After withdrawing from the US Open due to incomplete recovery, Sinner has taken a cautious approach to rehab. Training resumed in Monte Carlo earlier this month, with positive feedback reported regarding his knee condition. This steady progress encouraged setting the China Open as his comeback event.

Novak Djokovic Joins the Field in Beijing

The tournament will not only spotlight Sinner’s return but also feature Novak Djokovic, who is making his first appearance at the China Open since 2015. The 24-time Grand Slam winner holds an unblemished 29-0 record at this event, claiming six titles over the years.

Djokovic arrives following an unexpected early loss at the US Open and looks to regain form during the Asian swing, adding considerable star power to the competition.
