Dani Olmo Cautions Spain About Croatia's Fierce Comeback After 7-0 England Defeat
Dani Olmo Warns Spain of a Strong Croatian Response After Heavy Defeat
Dani Olmo has warned the Spanish squad to be prepared for a tough reaction from Croatia following their humiliating 7-0 loss to England in the UEFA Nations League. The Barcelona midfielder believes the Croatian team will be highly motivated to redeem themselves on home soil.
Olmo Urges Vigilance Against Croatia
Before Spain’s upcoming match against Croatia at the Poljud Stadium, Olmo stressed the importance of staying alert. He noted that Slaven Bilic's team is shaken by the worst defeat in their history but expects them to fight back fiercely with the support of their home fans.
Personal Connection to Croatia Adds Weight to Olmo's Warning
The match holds special meaning for Olmo, who began his professional career at Dinamo Zagreb and speaks fluent Croatian. In a press conference, he said, "I expect a more dangerous Croatia. They aren’t coming off an easy match, but playing in front of their home crowd won’t be easy for us."
Reflecting on Croatia’s shocking loss to England, Olmo added, "We were very surprised. But tomorrow we’ll see how they react... We’ve played many matches against them. We know they are very strong and have great players. It won’t be easy for us. We have to focus on ourselves and our own game."
Excited to Face Croatia in an Intense Atmosphere
Olmo expressed enthusiasm about returning to Split, where Hajduk Split’s Poljud Stadium is known for its passionate atmosphere. He said, "It’s a heated atmosphere. The fans press hard and get strongly behind their team and players. It’s a beautiful football match that we’ll be able to enjoy out on the pitch. That kind of atmosphere gives you extra motivation. Matches in this stadium bring back good memories for me. I have great respect for Hajduk."
Recalling his early days, Olmo shared, "Everyone has their own story, path, and reasons. I made that decision because of Dinamo’s interest and their desire to help me grow. I trusted in that, and it turned out to be one of the best moments of my career. I left at 16 and was alone with my mother in a new country with a new language. It was hard, but beautiful. I’m happy to be back."
He also highlighted his deep appreciation for Croatia: "They are unique feelings. It’s a country that gave me everything - or almost everything - I have. It’s a lovely opportunity to come back here, even if it’s in Split rather than Zagreb. Family and friends will be coming... I’m really looking forward to it."
Upcoming Nations League Showdown
Spain travels to Split aiming to maintain their unbeaten run and secure first place in Group A3 after winning their opening three matches, including a 4-1 victory over Croatia in their earlier encounter. For Croatia, hosting the reigning world champions at the fervent Poljud Stadium is a stern test after conceding 11 goals in two consecutive losses. This clash will be critical in determining the group's standings before the November international break.
