Burton Albion Sign Winger Caylan Vickers from Brighton
Burton Albion have dipped into the Premier League talent pool to land winger Caylan Vickers from Brighton, backing Gary Bowyer’s new era with a statement attacking signing.
The 21-year-old arrives at the Pirelli Stadium on a two-year deal, with the club holding an option for a further 12 months. The fee is undisclosed, but the intent is clear enough: Burton want more pace, more direct running, more end product.
Vickers knows League One. He spent last season on loan at Barnsley and Wigan Athletic, learning the grind of a division where reputations mean little and consistency is everything. That experience matters. Bowyer is not taking a gamble on a raw prospect who has only seen senior football from the bench.
He came through at Reading, catching the eye early, before Brighton moved to bring him into their setup. First-team minutes on the south coast never arrived, yet the Seagulls have developed a reputation for polishing young attacking players. Burton will hope to reap the benefit.
"He's an attacking player who will excite our supporters whilst adding goals and assists to the team," said Bowyer, making it clear Vickers has been signed to affect games, not just pad out the squad. "Having played at this level already, he arrives ready to contribute and we look forward to seeing how he continues to develop with us."
The message is simple: this is a player expected to hit the ground running.
For Burton, the timing is useful. They face AFC Wimbledon at the Pirelli on Wednesday evening, a home fixture that suddenly carries an extra layer of intrigue. The crowd will want a first glimpse of their new winger, the sort of player who can change the tempo of a match with one burst down the flank.
Brighton never saw Vickers in their first team. Burton now offer him exactly what he needs: a platform, a league he knows, and a manager ready to trust his attacking instincts. The question is no longer whether he can make the step up to senior football.
It is how quickly he can become one of the players this team is built around.
