Ben Morris Leaves Glamorgan as Young Seamer Considers Future

Glamorgan will say goodbye to one of their young seam options at the end of the season, with Abergavenny-born bowler Ben Morris set to leave the club.

The 22-year-old, a product of the Welsh pathway, has only had a fleeting taste of first-team cricket in Cardiff. One Championship appearance and five outings in the One Day Cup make up his senior record for the county, a modest tally that hints at opportunity unfulfilled rather than a closed chapter.

There were flashes. His standout performance came in the 2024 One Day Cup, when he returned figures of 3-52 against Essex, a spell that briefly pushed his name higher up the pecking order and underlined why Glamorgan had invested in his development. His most recent first-team appearance arrived in August 2025, a reminder of how hard it is for a young seamer to nail down a permanent spot in a crowded dressing room.

Morris has kept himself firmly embedded in the Welsh game. He has been a key figure for Cardiff UCCE, one of the most competitive university cricket programmes in the country, and has also turned out for Wales National County, sharpening his skills away from the county spotlight. Those platforms helped him stay match-ready, even when the Glamorgan door did not open as often as he might have hoped.

Now he is ready to step into uncertainty.

"I have enjoyed my time at the club, but I feel I still have a lot to offer in cricket and remain open to new opportunities, while being ready to explore a career away from it," said Morris, leaving the door ajar both for a fresh start in the professional game and a possible move into life beyond it.

For Glamorgan, his departure is another small but telling shift in the squad’s makeup. Morris becomes the second confirmed exit this year, following the retirement of 40-year-old stalwart Chris Cooke, whose experience and longevity have been central to the club for more than a decade. One is a veteran calling time after a full career; the other is a young quick searching for a way to truly begin his.

As Glamorgan weigh up how to reshape their attack and their dressing room leadership, Morris steps away with his best years still theoretically ahead of him. The question now is whether those years will be spent charging in with a new ball in hand, or building a future away from the professional game he has chased since his teenage days in Abergavenny.
