How Mercedes Can Secure the F1 Constructors' Championship at the Brazil GP

Mercedes Eyes Ninth Constructors' Title in Brazil

After Kimi Antonelli clinched his first Formula 1 world championship at the Mexico Grand Prix, Mercedes is poised to claim their ninth constructors’ trophy at the Sao Paulo race. The Silver Arrows have dominated this season by winning 12 out of 19 grands prix, comfortably leading the standings. Ferrari remains the only team with a mathematical chance to catch up, but they trail by 126 points.

Mercedes had a shot at sealing the title in Mexico, which required a 1-2 finish and Ferrari scoring no more than four points. Now, the situation is simpler: Mercedes just needs to outscore Ferrari by three points or more in Brazil to wrap up the championship.

Ways Mercedes Could Seal the Title at Brazil GP

  • Both Mercedes drivers finish in the points ahead of the Ferrari cars
  • Mercedes secures a 1-2, 1-3, or 1-4 finish
  • Mercedes finishes 2-3 or 2-4 while Ferrari does not win
  • Both Mercedes cars are inside the top five, with no Ferrari on the podium
  • Either Antonelli or Russell finishes in the top eight and both Ferraris retire from the race

Through the first 19 rounds (excluding sprint races), Mercedes has outscored Ferrari by three or more points in 10 races, showing consistent superiority.

Antonelli Takes the Spotlight for Mercedes

The 2026 campaign marks the first time since 1955 that Mercedes has won world championships without Lewis Hamilton, as the young Kimi Antonelli emerges as the new star. Team principal Toto Wolff reflected on the era with Hamilton:

"The championships with Lewis were absolutely incredible and rewarding. We all felt part of Lewis's history, one of the greatest champions, and we'll look back years from now and say we were world champions with him. That’s something I still think about a lot. He remained culturally relevant beyond Formula 1."

Wolff added, "This current championship is different. For me, Kimi is still the kid who hasn’t changed much visually. It’s refreshing. I tried to reach him recently and found out for his birthday he was at a water park. Great! As long as we help preserve that spirit, he’s deeply connected with Mercedes, which is fantastic to see."
