Barcelona Eyes Chelsea’s Estevao as January Transfer Option Amid Playing Time Concerns

Barcelona Monitors Chelsea Winger Estevao's Future

Barcelona are keeping a close watch on Estevao, the young Brazilian winger at Chelsea, amid rising doubts about his future in London. The 19-year-old’s limited minutes under manager Xabi Alonso have sparked talk of a possible move when the January transfer window opens.

Growing Frustrations at Stamford Bridge

Reports from SPORT indicate that Estevao is unhappy with how little he has played this season. Despite absences of teammates Cole Palmer and Joao Pedro, he remained an unused substitute during Chelsea’s recent League Cup loss to Liverpool. So far, he has only accumulated 163 minutes across all competitions, 125 of which came in the League Cup.

This lack of game time has led to speculation that Estevao might push for a departure come January. While no official talks between Barcelona and Chelsea have emerged, the Catalan club is clearly interested in tracking the situation closely.

Deco’s Longstanding Interest

Deco, Barcelona’s sporting director, has admired Estevao for quite a while, regarding him as one of Brazil’s brightest attacking talents since Neymar. His skill in dribbling, creativity in confined spaces, and ability to find pockets between defenders align well with Barcelona’s style.

Although Barcelona had followed Estevao during his time at Palmeiras, financial limitations stopped them from outbidding Chelsea, who signed him for over €60 million. Now, Estevao’s current struggle for minutes at Chelsea might open the door for Barcelona to revisit their interest, possibly through a loan deal if Chelsea show willingness.
