Aston Villa Sign PSG Starlet Mbaye for €55m

Aston Villa have gone toe-to-toe with Europe’s elite – and won.

The club have struck a deal with Paris Saint-Germain for teenage winger Mbaye, matching the French champions’ €55m valuation and pushing the transfer towards completion as paperwork is finalised. For a player courted by some of the continent’s biggest names, including Liverpool, this is a bold, unapologetic move from Villa.

This was not a deal built overnight. The relationship between Villa chairman Nassef Sawiris and PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi proved decisive, smoothing negotiations and helping Villa cut through the competition. When the moment came to move, they did not hesitate.

Unai Emery has been clear about the type of player he wants to build around. Mbaye fits that blueprint almost perfectly: direct, fearless, and already tested at the highest level despite his age. Villa see him not as a luxury, but as a cornerstone.

From Versailles to the Parc des Princes

Mbaye’s rise has been rapid. He joined PSG from FC Versailles 78 in the summer of 2018 and tore through the youth ranks, quickly marking himself out as one of the most exciting prospects in the academy.

By August 2024, at just 16, he was making his senior debut. The numbers since then underline why Europe’s scouts circled so quickly: 42 first-team appearances, four goals, four assists. Last season alone he played 31 times in all competitions, scoring three and setting up two.

The trust placed in him at PSG told its own story. Mbaye became the youngest player ever to start a competitive fixture for the club, earning 10 Ligue 1 starts and one in the Champions League. Under the floodlights and under pressure, he did not shrink. He belonged.

A new star for Senegal

His international path has been just as striking. After representing France at youth level, Mbaye switched allegiance to Senegal and made his senior debut in November 2025. Since then, he has collected 15 caps and already played his part in history.

He featured heavily in Senegal’s 2025 Africa Cup of Nations triumph, appearing in six matches during their run to the title. On the biggest stage of all, the 2026 World Cup, he started three games and scored against France on June 16 – a symbolic moment against the nation he once represented in youth colours.

For Villa, they are not only signing a prodigy; they are bringing in a fully-fledged international with tournament pedigree and the temperament to match.

Villa’s bold rebuild

This transfer window has turned Villa into one of the most aggressive operators in the market. Mbaye becomes the latest piece in a sweeping overhaul that has already seen eight new signings arrive, with Nicolas Jackson expected to follow as the ninth.

At the same time, there has been upheaval at the other end of the squad list. Morgan Rogers has joined Chelsea in a £117m deal, while Ollie Watkins has departed for Al Hilal, stripping away two major attacking outlets and forcing Villa to rethink their forward line.

That rethink now has a face.

Mbaye walks into a dressing room in transition, into a club that has chosen to trade proven Premier League goals for youth, upside and the chance to build something new. The fee, the competition for his signature, the trust placed in him by Emery – all of it points in one direction.
