Alex Volkanovski Praises Emerging UFC Featherweight Kevin Vallejos

UFC Champion Alex Volkanovski Recognizes Kevin Vallejos' Rise

Alex Volkanovski, the current UFC featherweight champion, has expressed admiration for Kevin Vallejos, a promising young fighter from Argentina. Vallejos, just 24 years old, has made a strong impression with an undefeated 4-0 record in the UFC since his debut last year.

Vallejos' Journey to the UFC Spotlight

Before joining the UFC, Vallejos appeared twice on Dana White’s Contender Series. He faced a setback in 2023 with a decision loss to Jean Silva but bounced back in 2024 by securing a UFC contract after a knockout victory against Cam Teague.

Upcoming Big Challenge for Vallejos

Next month at UFC Qatar, Vallejos faces a critical test against former UFC bantamweight champion Aljamain Sterling. This fight could elevate him into the featherweight division’s elite group if he manages to secure a win.

Volkanovski’s Thoughts on Vallejos and Other Contenders

Speaking to MMAjunkie.com ahead of his title defense against Movsar Evloev at UFC 333, Volkanovski shared his view on the rising prospects.

"After Movsar, you’ve got your Jean Silvas, you’ve got your Aljamain Sterlings, who are both pretty much in the exact same position. They’re the ones who stand out the most right now. That’s another one – (Kevin Vallejos) there. So whether Kevin can get a title fight that quick and jump the line, I don’t know," Volkanovski said.
"At the same time, Aljamain and Silva, they’re probably closest. But Kevin, he’s definitely someone – this is a test for him. You see a lot of guys who look good until they fight a veteran with fight IQ that’s calculated. Kevin is going to have a tough one here, but if he proves himself, he’s going to show that he deserves to be at the top."

Who Could Challenge Volkanovski Next?

If Volkanovski defeats Evloev at UFC 333, Jean Silva appears to be the likely next contender. Still, Vallejos might claim the next title shot by defeating Sterling decisively in Qatar. A victory there would significantly boost his chances to challenge for the featherweight belt, though Sterling will be determined to prevent that outcome.
