Indian cricketer Rinku Singh and Samajwadi Party MP Priya Saroj are set to marry on December 4, drawing a new line under a story that began far from the glare of stadium lights or Parliament cameras.

The wedding will take place at the Ramada Hotel in Lucknow, with preparations in full swing on both sides. The guest list is expected to remain intimate: family, close relatives and a handful of special invitees. No grand public spectacle, just a high-profile couple choosing a relatively private setting in their home state of Uttar Pradesh.

Rinku, now a familiar face in Indian cricket and a cult hero for Kolkata Knight Riders fans, comes from Aligarh in Uttar Pradesh. Priya represents Machhlishahr in the Lok Sabha as a Samajwadi Party MP. Their worlds might look very different from the outside—one built on runs and results, the other on votes and constituencies—but their paths crossed in the most modern way possible.

A love story born on a fan page

The spark didn’t come at a political rally or a cricket function. It came on a fan page.

During the Covid years, when the IPL shifted into a biosecure bubble in Mumbai, Rinku found himself scrolling through social media. On one such day, he came across Priya’s photograph on a fan page related to voting in her village. The image stayed with him. He thought she was perfect for him, yet he hesitated over the first move.

Then the algorithm, and a little courage, did the rest.

Priya liked a few of his Instagram photos. That was enough. Rinku finally sent her a message, and the conversation began. What started as a tentative exchange over social media quickly grew into something deeper. They spoke regularly, including before his matches, and by 2022, as Rinku later told The Times of India, he realised this was no passing distraction. It was love.

The relationship moved steadily from private chats to a formal commitment. On June 8, 2025, the two got engaged at The Centrum Hotel in Lucknow, turning an online connection into a public promise.

From the stands to the aisle

Priya has not stayed in the background. She has been visible in the stands, most notably at Eden Gardens in Kolkata, backing Rinku during his outings for Kolkata Knight Riders. While he built a reputation as a finisher under pressure, she watched from the crowd, part of the growing number of fans who rise when he walks out to bat.

Rinku has, since the engagement, spoken openly about how their relationship began, offering fans a rare personal glimpse behind the professional facade. For a player used to being judged by strike rates and scorecards, this has added a different kind of attention—softer, more curious, and distinctly human.

Now, more than a year after that engagement, the couple is preparing to formalise their bond in Lucknow. The timing is significant. Rinku is currently not part of India’s squad for the ongoing T20I series against Afghanistan, which means his calendar has room for something more personal than team meetings and net sessions.
