Manchester City Sign Allan Elias from Palmeiras for £34.2m

Manchester City have moved quickly to reshape their attack, sealing the signing of Palmeiras winger Allan Elias in a deal worth up to £34.2m.

The 22-year-old Brazilian, a product of Palmeiras’ academy, joins on a five-year contract after City agreed an initial £32m fee with a further £2.2m in performance-related add-ons. He arrives as a like-for-like replacement for compatriot Savio, who left for Tottenham Hotspur in a £75m move last week.

From Palmeiras prodigy to Etihad ambition

Allan leaves São Paulo with a solid body of work behind him. A right-sided winger with pace and directness, he scored nine goals and supplied 12 assists in 96 appearances for Palmeiras across all competitions, having risen through the club’s youth ranks to become a regular in Brazil’s top flight.

For the player, the move marks a leap into the European elite.

“This is a surreal moment for me. Manchester City, with everything they have won over the past 15 years, are one of the most attractive clubs in the world for players,” Allan said as the transfer was confirmed. “To be able to sit here today and say I have joined them is the proudest moment of my life.

“I love Palmeiras and always will - but the decision to come to City was an easy one. I want to be the best footballer I can be and the conversations I've had with the people at City so far has convinced me there isn't a better place for me to fulfil my ambitions.”

The message is clear: this is a player arriving not just to make up the numbers, but to grow into the demands of a side that has set the standard in English football over the past decade and a half.

Maresca’s rebuild gathers pace

Allan becomes the latest piece in what has turned into a sweeping summer overhaul under Enzo Maresca. The Italian, tasked with refreshing a squad that has lost key figures, has already overseen spending of more than £230m in this window alone.

Elliot Anderson arrived from Nottingham Forest in a headline £116m deal, while highly rated midfielder Ayyoub Bouaddi joined from Lille for £85.6m. Allan now adds another option in the wide areas, restoring balance after Savio’s departure and giving Maresca a different profile on the right flank.

The recruitment drive is not finished. City are in talks with Liverpool over Dutch forward Cody Gakpo, a move that would further reshape the front line, and remain keen on Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez as they look to reinforce the centre of the pitch after a major exit.

Big sales, big decisions

For all the outlay, City’s summer has been defined just as much by who has gone out of the door. Player sales have already brought in over £286m, underlining a deliberate and aggressive reset of the squad.

The most striking departure came with Rodri’s £65m move to Barcelona. The Spain midfielder, who won the 2026 World Cup Golden Ball, had been a cornerstone of City’s dominance. His exit leaves a sizeable tactical and emotional gap in the dressing room.

Tijani Reijnders has also moved on, joining Al-Qadsiah for £52m as City cashed in on another asset to fund their reshaping.

So the pattern emerges: major names leaving, substantial money reinvested, a younger core being assembled. Allan Elias slots into that strategy as a high-upside signing, arriving from South America with pedigree, hunger and time on his side.
