Bradley Barcola Joins Liverpool: A New Chapter Begins

Liverpool have landed one of Europe’s most coveted young forwards – and he is in no doubt about the size of the stage he is stepping onto.

Bradley Barcola has signed a long-term deal with the Reds after completing his medical at the AXA Training Centre, the Frenchman confirming the move that has rumbled on all summer. He will wear the No.29 shirt at Anfield.

“It’s a great pride to be able to play for Liverpool. I’m very happy,” he told Liverpoolfc.com. “It took a long time but I’m really happy today to be able to play for Liverpool and all I want is to be on the pitch and be able to play.

“I hope to achieve very big things. First of all, winning the Premier League – it’s one of my biggest dreams in my life. It is to do that and to stay in this team in the long term – that’s why I signed a long contract – and I hope I can do it.”

A champion arrives

Liverpool are not just buying potential. They are importing a serial winner.

Barcola, 21, arrives from PSG after a three-year spell in Paris that brought a stack of medals and a reputation as one of the most versatile forwards in the European game. Comfortable anywhere across the front line, he made 152 appearances for the French champions, scoring 39 goals and supplying 35 assists.

Those numbers came in a side loaded with attacking talent. He still forced his way into the picture and stayed there.

The honours followed. Back-to-back Champions League titles. Three straight Ligue 1 crowns. A player shaped in the pressure cooker of a club that expects to win every competition it enters now walks into another that lives by the same standard.

From Lyon’s academy to the world stage

Barcola’s story began at Olympique Lyonnais, where his rise from academy hopeful to first-team prospect gathered pace quickly. He made his senior debut in November 2021 and soon became a regular part of Lyon’s attacking rotation.

In 47 outings for the club, he produced seven goals and 11 assists – enough to convince PSG to move for him in August 2023. The leap from Lyon to Paris can swallow some young players. Barcola accelerated instead.

That progress has been mirrored on the international stage. Since making his France debut in June 2024, he has already collected 28 caps and scored six times. Three of those goals came at this summer’s World Cup, where he featured in every game of France’s run to a fourth-placed finish.

A year ago he was a promising name. Now he arrives on Merseyside as a proven tournament performer.

Liverpool’s new attacking card

Liverpool’s forward line was already stacked with options; Barcola offers something different again. A left-footer who can glide inside, stretch the pitch, or link play, he gives the manager another weapon to rotate, re-shape and refresh an attack that has long been the club’s defining feature.
