Ben Stokes Signs with Adelaide Strikers for Big Bash League

Ben Stokes is heading back into the spotlight – this time in blue.

The former England all‑rounder, who walked away from international cricket in June, has signed for Adelaide Strikers for the 2026-27 Big Bash League season, the club confirmed on Tuesday. The deal instantly turns one of Australia’s most colourful T20 competitions into an even bigger attraction.

This is no low-key swansong. At 35, Stokes is set to become one of the most expensive players in BBL history, with 7News reporting he will earn A$500,000 (£264,000) for the campaign. That figure underlines exactly how highly the Strikers rate a man who has spent a career bending tight games to his will.

Stokes, never one to underplay an occasion, made it clear the move has fired his competitive instincts.

“I’m really excited to be joining the Adelaide Strikers for BBL|16,” he said in a statement. “Adelaide Oval is an incredible place to play cricket, the Big Bash is a fantastic competition and the Strikers have an exciting group, so I’m looking forward to meeting the players, getting stuck in and contributing to a successful season.”
