Asif Khan Receives 15-Month Ban for Doping Violation

A key figure in the United Arab Emirates batting line-up, Asif Khan, has been ruled out of international cricket until late 2026 after accepting a 15‑month period of ineligibility for a doping violation.

The 34-year-old tested positive for a metabolite of mesterolone, a banned substance, in an out-of-competition test conducted on 8 September 2025. His suspension has been backdated to that date and will run until 7 December 2026.

A regular in the UAE side since his debut in 2022, Asif has featured in 38 ODIs and 56 T20Is, emerging as one of the team’s most experienced limited-overs batters. That rise now meets a hard stop.

The right-hander admitted a violation of Article 2.1 of the ICC Anti-Doping Code – the presence of a prohibited substance in a player’s sample – and accepted the sanction through a Case Resolution Agreement involving the World Anti-Doping Agency and the International Cricket Council.

The admission brought clarity, but it also carried a heavy competitive cost.

Under the ICC Anti-Doping Code, all of Asif’s individual results from 8 September 2025 up to the start of his provisional suspension on 29 December 2025 have been disqualified. That strip includes any medals, ranking points, prize money or other prizes earned in that period.

For UAE, it means planning close to a full calendar year without a batter who had become a fixture in their white-ball plans. For Asif, the road back now stretches to December 2026, with his international future on hold until then.
