Anthony Martial's Surprising Move to Málaga CF

Anthony Martial is poised for one of the more surprising turns of this transfer window, with the former Manchester United forward reportedly close to signing for Málaga CF, currently 18th in La Liga, according to Foot Mercato.

At 30, and a free agent since his contract with CF Monterrey was terminated, Martial has been hunting for a move that offers more than a final payday. Spain now looks like his next home, a fresh stage for a career that has drifted too far from the spotlight it once commanded at Old Trafford. He has already rejected two approaches from Ligue 1 clubs, a clear sign he is choosing carefully rather than grabbing the first familiar option.

The interest has not been limited to Europe. Libyan side Al-Ittihad Tripoli, newly reinforced by Moroccan winger Sofiane Boufal, pushed hard to lure Martial to North Africa. Their effort went far beyond polite enquiry.

Al-Ittihad’s management are reported to have put an extraordinary proposal on the table: a net salary of 10 million euros over two years, plus a signing bonus of 5 million euros. For a 30-year-old free agent, it was the kind of offer that usually ends negotiations on the spot.

Martial said no.

The Frenchman is understood to have turned down the deal, preferring what he sees as a genuine sporting project over a purely financial jackpot. If the Málaga move is completed, he will be walking into a club fighting at the wrong end of the table, not competing for titles or European places.

It is a gamble. But for a player trying to revive a stalled career rather than cash in on its final chapters, it might be the only move that truly makes sense.
