Tyrell Malacia Joins FC Cincinnati on Free Transfer

FC Cincinnati have moved decisively in the market, snapping up former Manchester United left-back Tyrell Malacia on a free transfer in a deal that could anchor their flank for years.

The 27-year-old Netherlands international arrives after his contract at Old Trafford expired at the end of last season, bringing an end to an injury-disrupted spell in England. He has signed with Cincinnati through next June, with an option that could keep him at the club through the 2027-28 season.

For a side with growing ambitions in MLS, this is a statement of intent. Malacia comes with serious pedigree: a product of Feyenoord, he earned his move to United in 2022 and went on to make 50 appearances for the 20-time English champions, despite fitness issues repeatedly halting his momentum.

Cincinnati general manager Chris Albright made no attempt to hide his satisfaction at getting the deal over the line.

"We are excited to add a player of Tyrell's experience," Albright said. "He's played at the highest levels of the game and understands the demands of competing in those environments. His quality on the ball, defensive instincts, and team-first mentality is a welcome addition to the group and we're happy to have him in Cincinnati."

For Malacia, the move offers something he badly needs: a clean slate and a platform to play regular football again. For Cincinnati, it offers a modern full-back with European and international experience, still in his prime, dropped straight into an MLS title race that grows more unforgiving by the year.
