Queensberry Wins Purse Bid for Sheeraz–Janibek Title Fight

The question of whether Hamzah Sheeraz would actually land his shot at Janibek Alimkhanuly’s WBO super middleweight title just got a little clearer.

Frank Warren’s Queensberry Promotions stepped in and won the official purse bid, staking a little over $1 million, according to ESPN. That figure pushed them past rival bidders Top Rank, who came in at $820,000, and crucially put control of the event in Queensberry’s hands.

With the numbers settled, attention moved straight to the stage on which this fight might play out. Warren outlined three possible host cities: London and Birmingham in England, or New York across the Atlantic. The working dates on the table are November 28 or December 5, both late-year slots that would drop a world title fight into the heart of the boxing calendar.

Nothing is signed and sealed yet, but the landscape has shifted. A matchup that recently felt distant now has a promoter, a winning bid, pencilled-in dates, and a shortlist of venues.

For Sheeraz and Janibek, the countdown has effectively started.
