Oleksandr Khizhnyak Breaks into WBA Rankings at No. 15

Oleksandr Khizhnyak, fresh from Olympic glory, has stepped straight into the thick of the professional light heavyweight scene, breaking into the World Boxing Association’s latest rankings at No. 15.

The 2024 Olympic champion announced himself properly in August, when he claimed the first title of his pro career on home soil in Lviv. Under the lights and with the crowd behind him, Khizhnyak outworked Argentine fighter Elias Palacio Durval to secure the WBA Gold International light heavyweight belt by unanimous decision.

The scorecards told the story of a dominant night: 99–91, 98–92, and a shutout 100–90 in favour of the Ukrainian. Palacio Durval came to spoil the party, but Khizhnyak’s tempo, accuracy, and ring control never really allowed the bout to drift out of his hands.

That performance has now been rewarded with a place among the WBA’s top 15 at light heavyweight, a significant step for a fighter still in the early stages of his professional journey but already carrying the weight of an Olympic title.

From amateur standout to ranked contender, Khizhnyak has moved quickly. The question now is how fast his team chooses to push a man who already looks built for the division’s biggest nights.
