Manchester United Sign Teenage Midfielder Isaac Konde from Liverpool

Manchester United have struck a deal to prise 16-year-old midfielder Isaac Konde away from Liverpool, in a move that underlines the club’s aggressive reshaping of their academy.

Fabrizio Romano reports that United have reached an agreement with Liverpool, with the formalities completed in the last 24 hours. Konde is now set for Old Trafford, crossing one of English football’s fiercest divides before he has even kicked a senior ball.

Konde has featured six times for Liverpool in the Under-18s Premier League this season, registering one assist. On paper, it is a modest return. On the recruitment board at Carrington, it clearly means much more. United see a developing midfielder worth investing in at a time when their youth ranks are being turned over at speed.

United rebuild while prospects move on

The capture of Konde follows a string of academy departures that have thinned out the ranks and forced United to act.

Premier League champions Arsenal swooped in the summer to sign Habeeb Ogunneye and James Scanlon on permanent deals, a double move that stung United’s youth structure and highlighted how coveted their prospects remain across the division.

Another forward, Louie Bradbury, also walked through the exit door. The 17-year-old striker joined Stoke City on a permanent deal, signing a two-year contract with an option for an extra season that could carry him into the 2028/29 campaign.

United marked his departure with a detailed club statement, underlining how much time and work had gone into his development. Bradbury, Shrewsbury-born, arrived at Under-14s level and went on to earn his scholarship with the club in 2025. He made five appearances for the Under-18s in the 2024/25 season, including a late substitute outing in the FA Youth Cup fourth round for Adam Lawrence’s side.

Last season he hit eight goals in the Under-18 Premier League and also featured at Premier League 2 level, enough to convince Stoke he was ready for the next step. United, for their part, publicly wished him well as he left for the Championship.

A market that never sleeps at youth level

United’s academy staff have not just been reactive. They pushed hard for Leicester City talent Louis Page, only to be left empty-handed when the two clubs failed to reach an agreement before the deadline. Page remains with the League One side, a reminder that even at youth level, deals can be as fraught and finely balanced as any first-team transfer.

So United turn to what they have managed to secure. Konde’s arrival, subject to the final processes, fits a clear pattern: a club willing to refresh, to take risks, and to raid rivals when the opportunity arises.
