Fabio Vieira Leaves Arsenal for Hamburg in Permanent Transfer

Fabio Vieira’s Arsenal chapter is over. The Portuguese midfielder has joined Hamburg on a permanent deal worth 10m euros (£8.6m), completing a move that has felt inevitable for some time.

At 26, Vieira arrives in the Bundesliga not as a prospect, but as a player who needs a home. He has spent the last two seasons living out of a suitcase, first back at Porto in 2024-25 and then at Hamburg last season, trying to prove he belonged at the level Arsenal once believed he could reach.

Hamburg have seen enough. His loan spell convinced them to commit, and the option has now become a long-term bet.

For Arsenal, this is a clean break. Vieira joined from Porto in 2022 with the promise of creativity between the lines and a left foot that could unlock deep defences. Across 49 appearances in north London, he offered flashes but never quite displaced the established core of Mikel Arteta’s side.
