Yannick Carrasco's Historic Hat-Trick in Saudi Roshn League

Yannick Carrasco turned the mini Clasico into his own private stage.

At the SHG Arena in Riyadh, under the lights and with the twelfth round of the Saudi Roshn League in full swing, Al-Shabab dismantled Al-Ahli 6-1 on Friday. The scoreline was brutal. Carrasco’s performance was even harsher.

This was not just a good night. It was a statement.

The Belgian winger ran the game and ripped up the record book. He walked away with a historic hat-trick, an assist, and the kind of authority that makes a so-called “mini” Clasico feel anything but small.

First Half

The first big blow came in the 26th minute. Al-Shabab had already drawn first blood when Carrasco stood over a free-kick, just far enough out to tempt, just close enough to punish. He wrapped his left foot around the ball and curled a superb strike beyond young substitute goalkeeper Abdullah Abdo. Precision, power, and a 2-0 lead. Al-Ahli were already reeling.

They never recovered.

Second Half

Three minutes into the second half, Carrasco switched from finisher to creator. Drifting into space, he picked his moment and delivered a measured cross into the box. Brazilian striker Ricardo Matias met it with a firm header, guiding Al-Shabab’s fourth goal into the net. The gulf between the sides was now reflected on the scoreboard.

Al-Ahli’s defending crumbled as the minutes ticked by. The pressure finally told again in the 66th minute. Colombian forward Roger Martinez drove into the area and was brought down by defender Mohamed Suleiman Bakr. The referee pointed to the spot. Carrasco grabbed the ball.

He did not hesitate. He did not miss.

The Belgian sent the goalkeeper the wrong way to claim his second of the night and Al-Shabab’s fifth. Ruthless, efficient, inevitable.

Bakr’s nightmare continued. With eight minutes of normal time left, he fouled Carrasco inside the area. Another penalty. Another chance for the winger to etch his name deeper into the contest.

Same taker. Same outcome.

Carrasco calmly tucked away Al-Shabab’s sixth, sealing his hat-trick and turning a dominant win into a landmark performance. It was not just any treble, either.

Opta confirmed it as Carrasco’s second hat-trick in the Saudi Roshn League, after his three-goal haul against Al-Riyadh last February. He also became only the second player to score a hat-trick in the mini Clasico between Al-Ahli and Al-Shabab since the 2009-2010 season, following Mohamed Benyettou’s effort for “the Lions” in September 2016.

Numbers tell the rest of the story. His three goals on the night lifted his league tally to six for the season, dragging him into the conversation near the top of the scoring chart. That race is currently led by England striker Ivan Toney of Al-Ahli, who sits on 13 goals.

Toney owns the leaderboard for now. On this evidence, Carrasco is intent on chasing him down.
