Sacha Boey's Future at Bayern Munich: A Potential Stay

What looked like a short Bayern Munich chapter for Sacha Boey may yet gain a second act.

Bayern sporting director Christoph Freund has made it clear the French full-back is now more likely to stay in Munich, after plans to move him on this summer collapsed with the closure of the German transfer window.

“The probability is now greater that he'll stay here,” Freund told reporters on Friday, a blunt admission that Bayern’s original blueprint has shifted.

The club had been prepared to offload the 25-year-old, whose time in Bavaria has so far been disrupted and underwhelming compared to the expectations that greeted his arrival. A transfer was explored. It never materialised. Once the Bundesliga window shut, Bayern’s room to manoeuvre shrank with it.

Through all of it, Freund stressed, Boey has not kicked up a fuss.

“He's always behaved in impeccable fashion. The plan was different, but this can happen in football,” the sporting director said, pointing to a professionalism that has clearly impressed the hierarchy even as they weighed his departure.

The situation now is simple. Bayern will wait for the remaining windows across Europe and beyond to close. If no late move emerges, Boey stays – and stays properly.

“When all transfer windows are closed and he's still here, then he'll remain a player in our squad,” Freund confirmed.

For a player seemingly on the way out, the door at Säbener Straße has not just stayed open. It might have swung back towards a fresh chance.
