Nike Secures Michael Olise in Major Boot Deal, Reviving the Iconic Hypervenom Line

Michael Olise, known for his unique stance on sponsorships, is set to ink his first-ever boot deal with Nike. This move marks a significant win for the American brand, which has long pursued the Bayern Munich and France star.

A Rare Choice in Modern Football

Unlike most top-tier footballers, 24-year-old Olise has never signed a boot endorsement during his six-plus years in professional football. This unusual decision stems from his preference for freedom over commercial deals, allowing him to wear what he pleases without brand restrictions. A source told L'Equipe earlier this year that Olise simply wasn’t interested in signing any boot contract.

"The fact he clearly values performance above anything else in a world where it appears that everyone has a price," said sports marketing expert Misha Sher. "It could be that he doesn’t want exposure or commercial adulation, focusing instead on his playing career," added Tim Stedman of SportFive.

Olise’s Signature Style: The Hypervenom

Despite his lack of official boot deals, Olise has been closely linked to one specific Nike product: the Hypervenom III. Released in 2017 and discontinued shortly after, the Hypervenom line became synonymous with Olise, who customized many pairs to match his kits and even had artists hand-paint some designs. Though he has tried various boots in training and matches, including Nike Mercurials and adidas F50s, on the pitch he has consistently chosen Hypervenoms.

Nike’s Strategic Victory

With Olise’s reputation soaring due to his performances at Bayern Munich and France, Nike has finally secured his signature, beating out rivals like adidas. The German brand reportedly offered a lucrative long-term contract, encouraged by CEO Bjorn Gulden’s public interest, but Olise favored Nike.

This signing comes as a bright spot for Nike after losing Kylian Mbappe to the newcomer On, who recently entered football boot manufacturing.

Bringing Back the Hypervenom

Nike plans to relaunch the Hypervenom line in 2027, nearly a decade after it was discontinued in 2019. Olise will be a key figure in promoting the reboot alongside Chelsea’s Cole Palmer. The return will replace the Phantom series, currently worn by stars such as Erling Haaland and Alexia Putellas.

Interestingly, Olise was seen training in a prototype of the new white Hypervenom boots before the World Cup, signaling his commitment to the revived line. The rebooted silhouette originally replaced the Total90 series in 2013 and was famously worn by Neymar during his peak years.

A Unique Marketing Approach

Nike aims to highlight Olise’s contrasting personality in their campaign. They plan to emphasize his quiet, emotionless off-field demeanor against his dynamic, impactful style on the pitch. This creative direction stands apart from typical athlete endorsements and reflects Olise’s distinct character.

The partnership promises more than just a traditional boot deal. Fans might soon see Olise officially debuting signature Hypervenoms, cementing his long-standing connection with the iconic boots.
