Lewis Hamilton Arrives in Dream Ferrari F40 at Monza

Lewis Hamilton has never been shy of an entrance, but this was something else. On a quiet Thursday media day at Monza, the paddock suddenly had a new main attraction: a scarlet Ferrari F40 rolling through the gates, with the seven-time world champion at the wheel.

Black suit. Tan overcoat. Iconic Prancing Horse. Hamilton didn’t just arrive for the Italian Grand Prix weekend. He staged it.

A childhood poster, now in the paddock

The 41-year-old Briton pulled up in his own Ferrari F40, a car he recently added to his collection after a painstaking restoration. For years he famously pared back his garage, selling off his entire car collection in 2025. This one, though, was never going to be just another toy.

Ferrari built only 1,311 F40s between 1987 and 1992. It is the car that defined an era: raw, loud, unforgiving. Today, pristine examples can command around $3 million. Hamilton’s carries an extra personal touch – a number plate bearing his racing number, 44.

This F40 had not lived a glamorous life before he found it. It reportedly sat in a garage for more than 30 years, gathering dust, forgotten. Hamilton saw something else: a dream within reach.

He had it sent to Maranello, where Ferrari’s engineers and mechanics went to work, bringing the car back to life over several weeks. The result is what rolled into Monza – a fully restored, factory-fettled F40 that looks every bit the poster car that once hung on bedroom walls.

Hamilton has been open about what the car means to him, calling it “the car of my dreams” and describing finally owning one as “a dream come true.” As he put it, he had imagined this moment since he was a kid, and made sure that when he joined Ferrari last year, an F40 would be with him on his first day at Maranello.

A flair for the Italian stage

This is not the first time Hamilton has used Monza as a catwalk for his love of Italian machinery. Last season he arrived for qualifying on a tricolore Ducati, turning the pit-lane entrance into a photo shoot.

The F40, though, hits different. It’s not just Italian. It’s Ferrari. It’s heritage on four wheels, driven by the man now tasked with delivering the Scuderia’s future.

For the Tifosi, the sight of their new star gliding into Monza in one of the most revered Ferraris ever built is more than a fashion statement. It’s a signal. Hamilton isn’t just clocking in for work; he’s leaning fully into the culture, the mythology, the emotion that wraps itself around this team and this circuit.

Eyes on a home victory

Away from the spectacle of his arrival, the stakes are clear. Ferrari comes to Monza hunting a home win, something the team last savoured here in 2024 with Charles Leclerc. The crowd will roar for both red cars, but Hamilton’s presence adds a new layer to the theatre.

He has the car of his dreams parked in the paddock. Now the question is whether he can give the Tifosi the race of theirs.
