Kroupi's Return Boosts Rose's Squad Ahead of Manchester Clash
Marco Rose will take his team into Manchester with a familiar face finally back at his disposal – and not just any face, but last season’s top scorer.
Junior Kroupi, sidelined since a foot injury in a pre-season session in Austria in late July, is set to be involved for the first time this campaign. Rose has waited patiently. Now he wants to unleash him, carefully.
“The plan is to take him with us to Manchester and give him some minutes,” the coach confirmed, a simple line that will sound like music to supporters who watched the 20-year-old catch fire last season.
Kroupi the game-changer
Rose’s eyes clearly light up when he talks about Kroupi. Not as a fragile prospect, but as a live wire who transforms the rhythm of training.
“He’s a funny guy. I really love him. He has a good attitude. He’s a special player,” Rose said, before lifting the curtain on what happens behind closed doors. When Kroupi joins a rondo, it changes. When he drops in as the floater in 5-v-5-plus-one drills, the whole exercise tilts in his direction. The tempo jumps. The quality rises.
“He changes every rondo you play. He changes every 5-v-5-plus-one session when he is the floater. It’s just a different game then.”
That is exactly the kind of edge Rose wants to carry into Manchester. At the same time, he knows the danger of rushing a young forward back too quickly. “We have to take care of him and he has to take care of his next steps,” he warned. The excitement is real, but so is the need for control.
Blocking out the Old Trafford noise
United arrive on the back of a bruising week. A 4-1 defeat to Como in the Champions League has turned up the volume around the club yet again, with criticism pouring in from all angles.
Rose has heard it all. He just refuses to let it seep into his own preparation.
“It should not affect us and our work,” he said. “I hear the voices and the noise around the club, but I don’t know if it helps us because everyone in Manchester seems to know now what to do and how to do it.”
The message to his players is clear: ignore the chaos, trust your football.
“It’s up to us to go there, be focused, bring our football on to the pitch and react well to situations.”
He knows exactly what kind of United to expect. Wounded. Hostile. Dangerous.
“I think they’re going to be angry, they’re going to be intense. We have to face it, make an open game of it and, at the end, we want to win it.”
Then came the line that hinted at the psychological tightrope both clubs are walking this season.
“You always get to a point where you have nothing to lose any more, sometimes as a manager, as a club, as players. That’s why it’s always difficult.”
United may be under siege, but teams with their backs against the wall often swing hardest.
Selection headaches of the best kind
If the mood around Old Trafford is tense, Rose’s camp feels very different. A 3-0 Europa League win over AC Milan on Thursday has injected confidence and competition into the squad. Every player now wants a piece of the action.
Asked how tough it would be to pick a side after that performance, the Cherries boss cut through the question with a wry, almost old-school response.
“It will not be so difficult because I can play with only 11 players – one goalkeeper and 10 others, and I’m going to pick 11.”
No drama. No overthinking. Just a squad pushing each other to higher levels.
“I’m quite happy that I see everyone wants to show that he belongs to this team, and this is the only thing I demand.”
Rotation will come, but not as a reward or punishment – simply as a necessity in a packed calendar.
“If you do it and maybe you don’t play on Sunday, then you play on Wednesday against Aston Villa in the Carabao Cup. We have so many games and enough time to give everyone the opportunity to play.”
Kroupi’s return only deepens those options. Rose now walks into Manchester with an in-form team, a hungry squad, and a fit-again match-winner ready for his first steps of the season.
The question is no longer whether his side can compete there. It’s how far this group, with its emerging star back in the fold, can push nights like this to define their year.
