“I tried going out there to see what it would be like just to, I guess, feel no pressure ... just go out there and have a fun time,” Frodin said afterward.

“I feel like that’s what I accomplished, and obviously I have a lot to learn, but I’m excited with most of the things I did out there.”

She doubled for the on-screen Serena before she had ever met the real one. She still hasn’t.

Frodin hopes that changes.

For now, her life sits in that familiar American fork in the road: college tennis or a full leap into the professional grind. She isn’t forcing it.

“I think I’m trying to just finish high school, see where the rest of this year takes me,” she said. “I’m not rushing into kind of making a decision with all that.”

The performance against Rybakina, and the praise that followed, will only sharpen the spotlight. Yet her words suggest a player determined to let her game — and time — do the talking.

What she does know is that she wants another shot at the Kazakh star.
