Luis Enrique has left the 33-year-old out of Paris Saint-Germain’s squad for Friday night’s meeting with Monaco, a brutal early verdict on the full-back’s start to his second spell at the club. The late comeback did not mask the staff’s doubts. Those brief minutes, intended as a chance to build rhythm and trust, instead appear to have accelerated Enrique’s decision. This week, Digne is not just out of the XI. He is out of the squad altogether.

The context makes the snub even more striking. PSG are short at left-back. Nuno Mendes, the undisputed starter, is suspended domestically after his straight red card against Lens in the Trophee des Champions, a ban that rules him out of the first three league matches. On paper, the path was clear for Digne: a ready-made opening, a familiar stadium, and a chance to reintroduce himself to the home crowd as a reliable, experienced option.

That chance has been taken away. Instead of turning to the specialist full-back signed on a long contract, Enrique has pushed his centre-backs wide. Lucas Beraldo and Lucas Hernandez have been preferred on the left of the back four, a tactical choice that underlines how far Digne currently sits from the coach’s plans.
