Chelsea's Interest in Manu Koné Persists

The window is shut, the paperwork’s done, and yet one name refuses to leave the conversation: Manu Koné.

In the frantic final hours of the summer market, Chelsea pushed hard to prise the French midfielder away from Roma. Talks were opened, lines were busy, and the London club tried to pull off a late move that would have sent Koné to the Premier League. That should have been the end of it. It isn’t.

Reports in France from Sport.FR indicate Chelsea have not cooled their interest. Far from it. The London club are expected to return to the table as early as the winter window, ready to test Roma’s resolve again.

For now, Koné stays where he is, embedded in Gasperini’s project and protected by a coach who clearly sees him as a cornerstone rather than a bargaining chip. But January is not far away, and the dynamic could shift quickly if Chelsea come back with a new proposal.

Roma have held firm once. The real question is whether they, and Gasperini, can – or will – do it again when Trigoria’s doors are knocked on in mid-season.
