Champions League Recap: Arsenal Draws with Bayern; Mbappé and Diomande Shine in Real Madrid Win

Wednesday's Champions League fixtures brought excitement, with late goals and surprising moments across Europe. At Allianz Arena, Arsenal staged a comeback to secure a 2-2 draw against Bayern Munich. Meanwhile, Real Madrid dominated RB Leipzig thanks to standout performances from Kylian Mbappé and Yan Diomande.

Arsenal and Bayern Share the Spoils

The visitors opened the scoring through Eberechi Eze, who replaced the injured Bukayo Saka early on. Eze cleverly outpaced the offside trap and finished past Manuel Neuer, with VAR confirming the goal. Bayern responded 10 minutes later when Alphonso Davies converted a precise through ball from Harry Kane.

Harry Kane was active throughout the first half, creating chances including a near-assist for Serge Gnabry. He then gave Bayern the lead in the second half by calmly converting a penalty after Jurriën Timber handled the ball inside the box. This extended Kane's Champions League scoring streak to 10 matches, just one short of Cristiano Ronaldo's record.

Declan Rice leveled for Arsenal, finishing off a slick move involving Viktor Gyökeres to make it 2-2.

Real Madrid Overpowers Leipzig

At the Bernabéu, José Mourinho’s team broke the deadlock in the 42nd minute. A neat sequence ended with Arda Güler's shot getting stuck under Leipzig's goalkeeper, allowing Bernardo Silva to tap in his first goal for Madrid.

Güler then scored again in the second half, assisted by Mbappé’s header. Mbappé himself curled a beautiful strike into the top corner in the 83rd minute, assisted by Yan Diomande, who had recently transferred from Leipzig. Although Leipzig pulled one back, Diomande sealed the 4-1 victory with a stunning volley inside the box.

Aston Villa Continues Winning Run

Ross Barkley got Aston Villa off to a strong start by flicking a corner past Viking’s keeper. Emiliano Buendía doubled the lead with a penalty before halftime. Villa wrapped up a 3-1 win with a third goal in the second half, marking their third straight win in this season’s Champions League group stage.
