Arsenal have already made their first signing for 2027 – and they’ve done it by beating Liverpool to one of Europe’s most talked‑about teenagers.

Across the summer, Arsenal and Liverpool circled the same name: a 17-year-old Georgian attacking midfielder widely regarded as one of the brightest prospects of his generation.

Days later, Romano reported that Bartishvili was travelling to the capital to complete the formalities and undergo his medical. The process was underway; the outcome felt inevitable.

On Friday morning, the final piece dropped into place. Romano announced that Bartishvili had completed his medical and that the move to Arsenal was “formally sealed”. The Premier League champions can now “consider him a new Arsenal player”, with his arrival scheduled for June 2027.

A long-term play from a team in control

This is not a signing for tomorrow’s team sheet. It is a statement that Arsenal, even while chasing trophies with players like Ezri Konsa and Bruno Guimaraes in their peak years, refuse to neglect the next cycle.

They have just taken a coveted talent out of Liverpool’s hands and parked him in their future.

For Liverpool, it is another reminder of the gap that has opened up in squad planning and pulling power. For Arsenal, it is something else entirely: proof that while they fight on all fronts in the present, they are already building the side that will follow.

In 2027, when Bartishvili finally walks into London Colney as an Arsenal first-teamer, the question will not be why they signed him so early.
