AFC Wimbledon Assistant Boss Terry Skiverton Diagnosed with Throat Cancer

AFC Wimbledon assistant manager Terry Skiverton has been diagnosed with throat cancer and will begin treatment in the coming weeks, the club have confirmed.

The 51-year-old, a key figure in Johnnie Jackson’s backroom team, had already stepped away from day-to-day duties in July to recover from ankle surgery. In that time, further health complications emerged, leading to the latest diagnosis.

In a statement, the League One side underlined their support for Skiverton and his family, stressing that he has been receiving backing from the League Managers Association in recent months and that Wimbledon will remain alongside him throughout his treatment and recovery.

Skiverton arrived at AFC Wimbledon in May 2022 as Jackson’s assistant and quickly became a central pillar of the club’s technical staff. His work on the training ground and in the dressing room helped drive the team’s rise, culminating in promotion to League One via the play-offs in 2025.

Now, instead of plotting opposition weaknesses and set-piece routines, Skiverton faces a very different fight. Around the club, the focus is clear: football can wait. The man who helped steer Wimbledon back into the third tier now turns his attention to the toughest challenge of his career, backed by a club determined to see him return to the touchline.
