WTA Top 10 Rankings Shift After China Open Victory for Qinwen Zheng

China Open Ends with Qinwen Zheng Taking the Title

Following the conclusion of the China Open in Beijing, the WTA top 10 rankings have changed notably. Qinwen Zheng, a wildcard entrant and local favorite, captured the title by defeating Mirra Andreeva 7-5, 6-4 in the final. The match lasted one hour and 42 minutes, thrilling the home crowd as Zheng overcame the fourth seed, Andreeva.

Ranking Changes After the Tournament

Zheng’s impressive run at the WTA 1000 event propelled her upward in the rankings. Alongside her, finalist Mirra Andreeva also climbed. Meanwhile, Americans Coco Gauff and Jessica Pegula saw slight drops in their standings after the update.

Elena Rybakina, who had recently become world number one, was knocked out in her first match in Beijing but maintained her top spot. Aryna Sabalenka remained second despite an early loss as well.

The main shift occurred behind these two leaders: Mirra Andreeva moved up two places to reach a career-high world number three, overtaking both Pegula and Gauff. Pegula and Gauff each dropped one position, now fourth and fifth respectively.

Further down the list, Elina Svitolina and Karolina Muchova each moved up a spot to sixth and seventh. Linda Noskova fell two places to eighth. Iga Swiatek and Marta Kostyuk held steady at ninth and tenth.

Other Notable Moves and Withdrawals

Mirra Andreeva isn't alone in hitting career-high ranks; 18-year-old American Iva Jovic rose two places to 11th. As excitement builds for the next big event, the Wuhan Open, several top players including Zheng and Andreeva have withdrawn. Zheng cited a right shoulder injury, while Andreeva adjusted her schedule.

This leaves the Wuhan Open missing many stars: world number one Rybakina, defending champion Gauff, Naomi Osaka, Amanda Anisimova, among others will not compete. Sabalenka leads the field as the top seed, with Pegula next in line. This tournament marks the last WTA 1000 event of the season.
