Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona Femeni Named Clubs of the Year at Ballon d'Or
Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona Femeni were awarded Club of the Year trophies during the Ballon d'Or ceremony, following their outstanding Champions League successes. Both clubs showcased their dominance across Europe, earning recognition as leading teams in world football.
PSG Takes Men’s Club of the Year
Paris Saint-Germain clinched the Men’s Club of the Year award after a landmark season that ended with them winning the Champions League. The French club’s triumph marked a milestone after years of pursuit for European glory. The Ballon d'Or event in Paris officially acknowledged their achievement, with PSG fending off tough competition from other top European clubs.
Ousmane Dembele, sidelined due to injury and absent from PSG’s 2-0 win over Lyon on the same night, accepted the award on behalf of the team. Speaking to the audience, Dembele expressed gratitude: "On behalf of all the Paris Saint-Germain club, I would like to say thank you to the president and sporting director, all the staff and, of course, our coach, Luis Enrique. Our fans always support us and stand behind us. We have created an incredible club, and we always fight side by side. Playing against Bayern in the semi-final was incredible; it could have also been the final to win the Champions League."
Barcelona Femeni Extends Their Reign in Women's Football
In the women’s category, FC Barcelona Femeni continued their supremacy by being named Women’s Club of the Year. The Catalan side's blend of skill and relentless drive has set the standard in women's football. Their near-perfect season saw them dominate both domestically and across Europe.
Club president Joan Laporta accepted the trophy, highlighting the team effort behind their success. He said: "Thank you, France Football, for awarding us this prize for best women’s club of the year. It is a great honor to receive this award. I want to thank everyone who is part of Barça’s history. Everyone has worked very hard to achieve success. I’m thinking of the players and the coach, Pere Romeu, as well as our directors, Xavi Puig and Angel Ruidalbas. Thank you for your extraordinary work. I would also like to thank the institutions organizing these competitions where our players showcase their talent: UEFA, the RFEF, and La Liga."
Looking Ahead: Ambitions for More Titles
The awards highlight shifting forces in football as PSG and Barcelona aim to build dynasties. While PSG’s win broke a Spanish streak in the men’s category, Barcelona’s leadership remains hungry for more trophies. Laporta emphasized their strategy of mixing youth and experience to maintain success and predicted more silverware in coming years.
He addressed Barcelona supporters: "I want to say a few words to the Barça fans, who are always by our side. This season, we aim to win La Liga three times in a row, win the Champions League, and be strong contenders."
