Pedro Porro Returns for Spurs Against Chelsea

Tottenham walks into Stamford Bridge on Saturday with something it hasn’t had all season: a bit of momentum and its vice-captain back on the pitch.

Pedro Porro, sidelined for a month with a hamstring injury, is available again for the London derby against Chelsea on Oct. 24. The Spaniard’s return comes just as Spurs finally shook off their early-season malaise with a 3-1 win over Coventry City on Oct. 19 — their first Premier League victory of the campaign, and enough to drag them out of the bottom three.

For Roberto De Zerbi, it changes the entire feel of his right flank.

Porro returns, Gray drops out

Porro is expected to walk straight back into the XI at right wing-back after missing time following the 3-2 defeat to Aston Villa on Sept. 19. He had made only four appearances before that setback, but his influence on Spurs’ build-up and pressing has already been obvious this season.

His reintroduction almost certainly means Archie Gray makes way, restoring a more familiar shape and seniority on that side. On the opposite flank, Andy Robertson has been cleared to keep his place after a knock against Coventry, giving De Zerbi his first-choice wing-backs in a game that rarely forgives weakness out wide.

“Pedro is back, Robertson is available, Marmoush is good, Solanke is good,” De Zerbi said on Friday, offering a rare clean bill of health in key attacking areas.

Predicted Tottenham XI vs. Chelsea

Here’s how Spurs are expected to line up at Stamford Bridge:

  • Goalkeeper: Kinsky
  • Defense: Porro, Adarabioyo, Van Hecke, Van de Ven, Robertson
  • Midfield: Tonali, Maddison
  • Forwards: Kudus, Solanke, Marmoush

It’s an aggressive shape for a visit to Chelsea, with Mohammed Kudus, Dominic Solanke and Omar Marmoush all likely to start. James Maddison pulls the strings behind them, with Sandro Tonali anchoring midfield and trying to keep Chelsea’s runners from flooding through the lines.

At the back, Tosin Adarabioyo, Jan Paul van Hecke and Micky van de Ven form the core of a defense that will lean heavily on Van de Ven’s pace and Porro and Robertson’s recovery runs whenever Spurs lose the ball high up the pitch.

Selection headaches and absences

De Zerbi’s options are still trimmed in certain areas. Lucas Bergvall, Sávio, Destiny Udogie, Xavi Simons and Wilson Odobert remain out, limiting his ability to rotate in wide and creative roles. Rodrigo Bentancur is suspended, serving the second match of his ban after his red card against Manchester United.

Tottenham’s official list for the Chelsea clash reads:

  • Out: Bergvall, Sávio, Udogie, Simons, Odobert, Mudryk
  • Questionable: N/A
  • Suspended: Bentancur

The absences strip some depth from De Zerbi’s bench, but the core of his starting side is intact, and crucially, Porro’s return restores leadership and bite in transition.

Stage set at Stamford Bridge

The stakes are clear. Spurs have finally found a win and a way out of the relegation places. Chelsea, at home, will expect to punish any lingering fragility.

Kickoff is set for 12:30 p.m. ET at Stamford Bridge, with coverage on Peacock, NBCSN and Telemundo.

Tottenham arrives with a revived right wing-back, a settled left side, and just enough confidence to believe that one win can become something more. Stamford Bridge will quickly reveal whether that belief has any real weight.
