Marcus Rashford's Meaningful Tattoos: Numbers 14 and 9

Marcus Rashford has found room for two more numbers on a body already mapped out in ink and milestones. The Manchester United forward has added 14 and 9 to his growing gallery of shirt numbers, according to Manchester-based tattoo artist Dale McGovern, sitting alongside the familiar 39, 19 and 10 that already track his journey.

Each digit means something. They always have with Rashford.

The 14 is a nod to Barcelona, the first great leap of his career away from Old Trafford. It was the number on his back when he crossed the Channel, pulled on the blaugrana and helped the Catalan club to La Liga and the Spanish Super Cup. A short spell, but a sharp one – and clearly one he wanted etched permanently, not just remembered in passing highlights.

Then comes 9, the striker’s classic calling card. That number followed him to Aston Villa, another chapter, another test of his ability to carry an attack. When he returned to United wearing the same number, it became the fourth different shirt he has used for his boyhood club, another layer in a career that has never stayed still for long.
